We created this article as part of our research process for our European single family office database. Here, we are highlighting three exciting family offices from Berlin.
Single family offices manage the assets of particularly wealthy families or private individuals. In the following, we present three exciting family investment vehicles from the German capital Berlin.
1. KALODION GMBH
KALODION is the family office of David Zimmer. The entrepreneur became wealthy by bulding up the telecommunications firm inexio. The telecommunications infrastructure provider, which is active in fiber optic expansion, was sold to competitor Deutsche Glasfaser in 2020. Since then, David Zimmer has continued his entrepreneurial activities with KALODION. The family office pursues three main areas of activity: Corporate investments, real estate investments and social entrepreneurship. In the area of corporate investments, KALODION is primarily active as an early-stage investor – the portfolio currently comprises 18 companies – but is also a strategic co-investor and fund investor. In the area of real estate, portfolio management and property development is carried out. Social entrepreneurship includes non-profit activities with a social added value.
2. Bremke Holding GmbH & Co. KG
Bremke Holding (Bremke Family Office) is the family office of the Bremke family of entrepreneurs, which can look back on more than 150 years of entrepreneurial tradition in wholesale and retail. In 2003, the trading activities were discontinued with the sale of over one hundred self-service stores and supermarkets (brands: famila, Combi). Since then, the family office has pursued various activities under the umbrella of Bremke Holding. ANH Hausbesitz manages the family’s real estate assets and develops commercial properties in Berlin and North Rhine-Westphalia. Investment activities are bundled under the Scope Hanson brand – the goal: investments in promising real estate projects, start-ups and medium-sized companies. Outside of this, investments are also made in impact companies with sustainable business models.
3. 4 Friends Investment GmbH
4 Friends Investment was launched in 2016 as a joint family office of the founders. In the meantime, they see themselves more as an investment platform that co-investors and institutional investors can also use. 4 Friends Investment has offices in Berlin, Frankfurt/Main and Warsaw and is involved in three areas: Real Estate Investments, Fitness, Health & Lifestyle and Corporate Investments. In real estate, the focus is on the asset classes Value Add/Opportunistic and Core (+). In Fitness, Health & Lifestyle, the fitness chain Tru Fitness is operated. In corporate investments, the platform acts as an early-stage and growth financier – preferably for business models in the areas of real estate and fitness, health & lifestyle.
